Legal Counsel
The Role
Altris is taking sodium-ion battery technology from Uppsala to industrial scale, built on our proprietary cathode active material. The agreements we sign over the next few years will decide how fast and how far that goes, and as our Legal Counsel you will be the person who makes them work. You will sit close to the executive management team and the board of directors, and your advice will land while decisions are still being shaped.
What You Will Do
Lead the legal side of our fundraising and investment activity, including investment and shareholder agreements and cap table management, and be the day-to-day counterpart for our partners and their counsel.
Negotiate supply, customer and partnership agreements that take Altris from pilot volumes to industrial production, and draft terms that still hold when the business has doubled and tripled in size.
Support corporate governance and legal structuring as the group grows, including joint ventures and new corporate entities.
Advise management on the legal risk in strategic decisions, flag what matters early and come with a recommended way forward.
Keep Altris compliant with the regulations and industry standards that apply to a growing battery company, including the conditions attached to EU and other public funding.
Decide when to bring in external counsel for specialist questions, and steer their work so it stays focused and cost effective.
Build the legal foundation of the company, with policies and contract templates that let the team move faster and stay consistent.
What You Bring
Education: Law degree from an accredited university (LL.M. or equivalent).
Experience: 5+ years from a law firm or an in-house role, ideally in a growth company or in an industrial sector such as energy or manufacturing.
Deal experience: Hands-on drafting and negotiation of commercial and procurement contracts, as well as corporate governance documents.
Corporate and investment law: Solid understanding of investment agreements, shareholder agreements and cap table management.
Legal knowledge: Expertise in corporate and contract law in Sweden and other markets.
Business-minded advice: You give senior management clear and concise guidance on the risks that matter, so decisions can be taken quickly and with confidence.
Communication and negotiation: You explain complex legal questions in plain language to colleagues without a legal background, and you negotiate firmly and constructively with counterparties.
Languages: Fluent English is required, and Swedish is an advantage.
Why Join Altris
Sodium-ion batteries are moving from promising research to real deployed products, and Altris is spearheading that shift. You will join a team where legal work has a direct line to strategy, so the contract terms you negotiate show up in how the company grows. There is real room to shape the legal function from the start, and your input will count from your first week. The role offers hybrid remote work, and the compensation package includes stock options, so you share in the value you help build.

About Altris
Our journey began in 2015 when Ronnie Mogensen, a master’s student at the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre at Uppsala University, came across an enlightening study on sodium-ion batteries by the renowned scientist and Nobel laureate, John B. Goodenough. In search of a cathode for his master’s degree experiments, Ronnie teamed up with his supervisor, Associate Professor Reza Younesi, and material chemistry expert, Associate Professor William Brant. Together, they innovated their first Prussian White process.
