Business Controller
About Altris
The energy transition needs new chemistry. At Altris we design, develop, and industrialise sodium-ion battery technology to enable safe, cost-effective, and scalable energy storage — built from abundant materials in Europe, for Europe, and beyond. As one of Europe’s first sodium-ion leaders, we are building a resilient supply chain and accelerating electrification across mobility, stationary storage, and low-voltage applications.
Joining Altris means helping to shape a new industry, not just a new product.
The Role
We are hiring a Business Controller to strengthen our financial performance engine during an important growth phase. You will work closely with R&D, Operations, Strategy, and Commercial project teams — providing clarity, structure, and accurate financial insights to drive decision-making.
Your scope covers budgeting, forecasting, scenario analysis, accounting and audit, project controlling, and business case modelling. You will help us operationalise scale: from processes and cost models to ERP development and reporting frameworks.
This is a role for someone who thrives in complexity, owns their domain, and brings order to ambiguity. Having scaled this prior at a start/scale-up or Big-4 experience is a massive advantage.
What You’ll Do
- Lead preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and cost follow-up against plan
- Monitor variances, provide actionable insights, and recommend corrective measures
- Produce clear monthly, quarterly and annual reporting packages for management and external stakeholders
- Perform cash-flow analysis and forecasting to support runway planning
- Support scenario planning, unit economics, and investment cases for customers and partners
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting flows
- Contribute to ERP optimisation for project controlling, revenue recognition and cost allocation
- Define and document processes to improve financial hygiene and scalability
- Lead basic accounting activities (accruals, supplier and customer accounting=
- Support accounting operations including cost accounting and project reporting together with our external service provider
- Prepare, own and execute on annual audits and monthly closing activities.
Who You Are
You are analytical, structured, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with a mixture of R&D, industrialisation, and commercial activities. You enjoy designing clarity from complexity, and you want to constantly improve how the business works, not just report on it.
Experience & Background
- 4–6 years of relevant experience in business controlling, finance, or management accounting
- Experience in project controlling and cost control (required)
- Exposure to manufacturing, industrial, or technology development environments (preferred)
- Experience from Big-4 audit/advisory or scale-up environments is a strong advantage
- BSc/MSc in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent
Skills & Behaviours
- Highly organised with strong analytical capabilities
- Proactive, curious, and comfortable asking the “why” behind the numbers
- Structured communication: clarity over complexity
- Comfortable in high-pressure contexts where priorities shift
- Strong interpersonal skills, trust-building, and ability to collaborate with engineering teams
- Excellent written and spoken English (Swedish is a plus)
How This Role Connects to Our Values
Pioneering – “Think Different, Act as One”
You translate financial data into insight. You challenge assumptions. You bring clarity that enables innovation.
Progressing – “Act, Adapt, Advance”
You take ownership, drive timelines, and turn reporting cycles into learning cycles.
Persisting – “Keep Going, Keep Growing”
You follow through. You refine processes. You contribute to financial systems that scale with us.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to help build Europe’s sodium-ion ecosystem from the ground up
- Close collaboration with a cross-functional team of scientists, engineers, and operators
- A culture that rewards ownership, decisive action, and data-driven thinking
- Continuous development as we scale from pilot to industrial production
This Role is a Good Fit if You…
- Want to be close to the business, not hidden in a reporting silo
- See ambiguity as an invitation, not a blocker
- Enjoy designing processes and financial structures that scale
- Want your work to matter — environmentally, strategically, industrially

About Altris
Our journey began in 2015 when Ronnie Mogensen, a master’s student at the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre at Uppsala University, came across an enlightening study on sodium-ion batteries by the renowned scientist and Nobel laureate, John B. Goodenough. In search of a cathode for his master’s degree experiments, Ronnie teamed up with his supervisor, Associate Professor Reza Younesi, and material chemistry expert, Associate Professor William Brant. Together, they innovated their first Prussian White process.
